Motivational Speaker

Her career as a trial lawyer has sharpened Karen’s public speaking skills; skills that were useful in traveling to promote her book, Running Through Menopause.

Karen is available as a continuing education instructor, having spoken this year to the Savannah Apartment Manager’s Association on tenant issues and to various legal groups as a speaker for Sterling Education Services, Inc. and the National Business Institute, about family law and landlord/tenant law.

Her next engagement is Georgia Landlord and Tenant Law, a continuing legal education seminar, in Savannah on March 19, 2013, speaking on rights and responsibilities of landlords.

Karen has spoken to Scribbler’s Retreat Writer’s Conference about The Writer and the Law, and to many civic and social groups about exercise for the not-so-athletic.

A review of her speech to the Savannah Striders is available at https://www.examiner.com, October 19, 2011 issue.

An excerpt from the review by writer Beverly English:

“Karen Dove Barr recently addressed a packed conference room of runners at the Exchange Tavern on Waters Avenue. “I’m a celebrity,” said Barr. “Every time I race I get my own police escort. Just to make sure he has the right celebrity, the officer rolls down his window and hollers, ‘Hey, Lady!  Anybody else back here?’”

The crowd giggled, knowing that police officers must follow the last runner in and often do so with lights flashing. It is every runner’s prayer that they are not the last one to cross the finish line, but Barr says it is not that bad.

Barr said that no matter what speed you run, or who tells you that you can’t be a runner, anyone can do it if they just try and stick with a program.”
